West Texas Strong Memorial Scholarship Program: Honoring the Legacy of the Fallen
In the aftermath of the tragic events that occurred in West Texas on August 31, 2019, the community came together to support one another and begin the healing process. The West Texas Strong Memorial Scholarship Program was created by The Kent Companies to make a lasting impact in the wake of tragedy.
This scholarship program is designed to provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors or college students who are residents of Midland or Odessa and will be full-time students of a college or vocational technical program for the upcoming fall semester. The program is open to students from all backgrounds and areas of study, with the goal of supporting those who show academic promise, leadership potential, and a commitment to their communities.
By participating in the West Texas Strong Memorial Scholarship Program, students not only receive financial support for their education but also become part of a community dedicated to honoring the legacy of those who lost their lives. They become ambassadors of hope, carrying forward the spirit of resilience and strength that defines West Texas.
To apply for the West Texas Strong Memorial Scholarship Program, students must submit an application no later than May 25, 2023. Three students will be awarded $2,500. For more information and to apply, visit here.
On Monday, November 7th, members of the Kent Companies Team presented Buckner of Midland with a check for $65,000. This money was collected as the proceeds from The Kent Companies Annual Charity Golf Tournament, this past June. The golf tournament was hosted at Odessa County Club and featured more than 200 players, which has been the largest turnout for the tournament. Naturally, with the largest tournament, this is also the largest check that has been presented from this event.
Buckner of Midland provides adoption services and a variety of services for single-parent families in Midland. The Kent Companies is proud to have supported such a great organization over the last few years, through the charity golf tournament.
On Tuesday, October 25th, The Kent Companies opened the doors of the newest Kent Kwik Travel Center and Rustic Cafe in Midland, TX. This location is Midland’s 17th Kent Kwik and second Rustic Cafe. Interstate travelers and locals can find this location situated off East I-20 and loop 250, the exact address is 5800 I-20, Midland, TX.
The standout features of this travel center are its spacious truckers lounge, complete with showers and laundry, walk-in beer cave, ethanol-free fuel, full-service Rustic Cafe restaurant, and 24-hour service. Guests can dine in, order to go, or book an event in the Midland Room of the Rustic Cafe. A home-style diner featuring breakfast served all day, diners can expect to find big flavors and classic comfort food. Featured menu items include chicken fried steak, handcrafted burgers, sweet cream pancakes and hand-dipped milkshakes.
There is no other truck stop like this in Midland and it is with full confidence that The Kent Companies is meeting the needs of their guests, from local drivers to professional truckers.
Three Midland students have been awarded $2,500 for the upcoming Fall semester from The Kent Companies West Texas Strong Memorial Scholarship. The award winners are Joaquin Armendariz, Jayce Heinemann and Andrew Martinez.
Joaquin Armendariz will be attending Texas A&M University and is a Biomedical Sciences major.
Jayce Heinemann is attending the University of Texas Permian Basin and is an Environmental Sciences Major.
Andrew Martinez will be attending Midland College and is a Criminal Justice Major.
Congratulations to all our award winners. The next round of scholarships will go out for the Fall of 2023 and the application will open in April of 2023.
After careful consideration, The Kent Companies has made the tough decision to cancel the 2020 Charity Golf Tournament. This decision was not made lightly but with travel restrictions and limitations at the golf course, we believe it to be in the best interest of attendees and our team members to simply forgo this year’s activities.
We thank everyone who registered for our event and we are giving all attendees and sponsors the option to either be refunded the amount they paid or to roll over their sponsorship and player-fees to next year. If you have not yet given your preference of refund or rollover, please contact Katie Roberts, firstname.lastname@example.org, 432-520-4000 ext.1387.
Our hope is to be back to our regular schedule and month with the next tournament being held in June of 2021.
Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you all next year!
